Executive Summary:

The UAS Recurrent Pilot Training course is a comprehensive two-day program tailored for COA and Part 107 UAS pilots engaged in public safety operations. This course is designed to cater to agencies with established UAS programs, offering a Regional Training Center-certified recurrent training program focusing on platform-specific skills. Throughout the training, participants will engage in intermediate pilot exercises to build and enhance confidence in their UAS flying skills, ensuring a high level of proficiency in various operational scenarios.

Utilizing the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Aerial Test Methods, students will complete Level 3 Open and Level 4 Obstructed courses, providing participants with a structured approach to objectively evaluate and measure the proficiency and control of UAV piloting. Additionally, the course delves into flight management software and drone software settings, enabling pilots to optimize their UAS performance and leverage advanced functionalities. Emphasis is placed on intermediate public safety flying skills, ensuring that participants are well-equipped to navigate complex and dynamic situations that may be encountered during public safety operations.

Students Will:

  • Successfully complete the certified recurrent training program, allowing agencies with established UAS programs to provide Part 107 UAS pilots with a structured and comprehensive refresher course, ensuring ongoing compliance and proficiency.
  • Participants will engage in two days of intermediate pilot training, focusing on platform-specific skills to enhance their UAS flying abilities, with an emphasis on building confidence in various operational scenarios.
  • Attain Level 1 and Level 2 NIST proficiency according to NIST standards, ensuring participants are equipped with a recognized benchmark to assess and refine their UAS piloting skills in alignment with industry standards.
  • Develop proficiency in utilizing flight management software to optimize UAS performance, enhancing participants’ ability to plan, execute, and monitor missions effectively.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of drone software settings, enabling participants to customize and configure their UAS for optimal performance and alignment with public safety requirements.
  • Demonstrate intermediate public safety flying skills.

Equipment: Mixed, Students should bring their assigned UAV / RTC Supplemented
Recommended Prerequisite: RTC 48-hour UAS Operators Course, or 32-hour Basic Pilots Course, or equivalent training.
Student Requirements: Part 107 license or flying under a COA.
Recommended For: UAS Operators in public service and private security industries.
Technical Level: Beginner to Advanced UAS Operators.
