The Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Program Operators Course is a 48-hour program of instruction designed to provide organizations with the knowledge and skills necessary to create and implement an aviation program based on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platforms. The Basic sUAS Pilots Course is a 32 -hour program of instruction designed specifically for agencies that already have an established UAS program with protocols and a comprehensive policy in place.  The course instruction is focused on piloting skills coupled with training in operational safety and system maintenance.

Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (sUAV) are powerful tools for first responders.  However, the Federal Aviation Administration limits sUAS use to daylight hours unless certain conditions are met.  In order to be operational 24-hours a day, organizations must acquire a waiver to operate during the hours of darkness.  At a minimum, remote pilots must know the requirements to operate at night; including aircraft equipment.

This course will focus on the necessary skills required by a UAS Visual Observer (VO) in support of either Part 107 pilot operations or operating under a Certificate of Authorization (COA).
