The Regional Training Center, utilizing the National Institute of Standards and Technology Aerial Test Methods, is honored to provide a Train-the-Trainer course for the NIST Level 3 Open, Level 4 Obstructed, and Level 5 Confined Test Methods for Small UAS. Incorporating the NIST testing methods into agency training has become the industry standard in public safety. The RTC recognizes the incredible value of a reproducible method to objectively evaluate and measure the proficiency and control of UAV piloting. Graduates of this course will be certified RTC Proctors in Level 1 Basic Proficiency, Level 2 Maneuvering, Level 3 Open, Level 4 Obstructed Lanes, Level 5 Confined, and NIST Scenarios to reproduce at their respective agencies.
Course Length: 3 days (24 hours total)
Max Class Size: 20-40 Students (facility restrictions apply)
Equipment: Students are encouraged to bring their assigned UAV for testing

David Naranjo is a Chula Vista Police Agent with over nine years of experience in Law Enforcement and over three years of experience on the department’s UAS team. In addition to being a pilot, David has been responsible for the department’s UAS equipment maintenance program for over a year and has assisted in running multiple monthly team trainings.David has his Part 107 license and has logged over 400 hours of flight time with over 2000 Department missions, which include tactical flights, search warrants/SWAT Missions, night flights, and Drone as a First Responder (DFR).
