Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (sUAV) are powerful tools for first responders.  However, the Federal Aviation Administration limits sUAS use to daylight hours unless certain conditions are met.  In order to be operational 24-hours a day, organizations must acquire a waiver to operate during the hours of darkness.  At a minimum, remote pilots must know the requirements to operate at night; including aircraft equipment.

Formerly the Tactical Operators course, this improved version capitalizes on the significant experience of the professional UAV pilots that make up the instructor cadre.  We are fortunate to have public safety UAV experts who are flying missions for their agency on a regular basis.  They are able to share the latest tactics, UAV platforms, software, and industry innovations because they are working in it daily in real-world public safety settings.

The Basic sUAS Pilots Course is a 32 -hour program of instruction designed specifically for agencies that already have an established UAS program with protocols and a comprehensive policy in place.  The course instruction is focused on piloting skills coupled with training in operational safety and system maintenance.

Recognizing Implicit Bias is made up of student-centered learning activities that allow attendees to safely understand their own biases with a scientific approach.  The curriculum design avoids an accusatory tone and focuses on objective facts revealed directly to each student by their own in-class discovery.  Students learn the baseline benevolent affective disposition needed to effectively combat implicit bias. Next, they learn how to recognize their own biases and develop strategies to mitigate them or eliminate them altogether. Finally, students identify micro-aggressions and slights and develop specific proactive strategies to respond to them correctly.
