Expired UAS Basic Pilots Course 03/22/23

Executive Summary:

The UAS Basic Pilots Course is a 32 -hour program of instruction designed specifically and ONLY for agencies that have an established UAS program and are flying missions with protocols and a comprehensive policy in place. The curriculum focuses on piloting skills and training in UAS safety and general UAS program operations. Training begins online with FAA Part 107 test preparation culminating with an in-class test review.

Students will:

• Explain UAS safety management strategies and safety culture
• Demonstrate UAV flight setup and pre-flight
• Demonstrate emergency safety procedures
• Explain record keeping and courtroom testimony
• Demonstrate UAV piloting skills in basic public safety mission-sets
• Demonstrate UAV piloting skills in a competition course, under stress

Each student will receive a minimum of 8 hours of flight training as a member of a UAS deployment team and log at least 3 hours of actual flight time.

The Regional Training Center (The RTC) is not affiliated with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).  The FAA Remote Pilot Airman Certificate is achieved by successfully completing the FAA Aeronautical Knowledge Test. The RTC has partnered with FAA testing centers to include the FAA test as part of this course (test fee is included in the tuition).  The RTC does not control or guarantee testing availability and will do everything reasonably possible to ensure students test as a class  per the hourly schedule; however, testing site availability is strictly controlled by PSI Examination Services and the testing centers themselves. If we are unable to schedule a student’s examination, RTC will provide the student with a coupon code valid for one FAA Part 107 Examination. In addition, RTC staff will assist the student in registering for the examination if needed.
